An essential guide.
If you're new to Austin, thinking about visiting, or even if you've lived there for a while and are interested in what all the "Keep Austin Weird" fuss is about, this is an essential guide, and a lavishly illustrated one. If you're looking for a synopsis and photographs about the weird/unique things of Austin- you'll find it here- from the Annual Spamarama to eccentric political candidates to the Texas Chili Parlor to Satan's Cheerleaders. To my knowledge, this is the only book on Austin of its kind, and so is an essential resource for those who are thinking about visiting the city or native Austinites who want to learn more about it.

Brilliant
I've been researching Austin for the past few months, and I can't believe it took me this long to come across this book. Not only is it a fabulous guide, it's hilariously written. Kudos to Mr. Wassenich.

I've never been to Austin...
I've never been to Austin, but this book kinda makes me want to visit. Someone left it in a breakroom at work, and I'd flip through it when I was microwaving lunch. It amused me so much that I started going to read bits of it when I got really stressed out at work. It worked for me as a stress reliever. Cool, weird, funky book -- and I get the impression Austin is also cool, weird and funky -- all good things to me. :)

My favorite of the Texas McKettricks
This is the 3rd in the Texas McKettricks series. Austin is the youngest brother and his past with the youngest Remington, Paige, is finally catching up with him. Now that his brothers are marrying her sisters, they have to find a way to get along. The only problem is they both seem to be way too attracted to the other, but they know acting on it will be a problem since they will have to be around each other for holidays and other family get-together for the next fifty years. The other two books have been building up to this one. Paige and Austin have been mentioned repeatedly and it is obvious that they have some kind of history together. I liked the previous two books, but I've really been looking forward to this one. I was concerned that I might be disappointed, but gratefully, I was not. Of the three brothers, I loved Austin the most. Plus, Paige was the smartest of the three. Maybe it is because I am a youngest child like both of them, but both of their characters were...

First Blake long I Liked
I've made a list of favorite songs that I want to buy. This one was at the top. This is a great song that I think really captures the love a person can have, even when the object of their affection doesn't reciprocate.

Good guide, but not all an eBook could be
I have had good luck with Frommer's Guides for locations all over the world and welcome their recent appearance as Kindle books. In the past, I have cut out maps and sections of the paperback books to take with me on a trip so I could have a list of dining and sightseeing choices. With Kindle versions of the Frommer's guides, I can now take the entire book with me. However, Frommers first attempt at moving to the electronic book world falls a little short of ideal. The guide seems to have the same content as the print version, but not enough effort has been made to take advantage of the electronic format. There is no index because there are no actual pages in the eBook, but an index with active links to the text would be even easier to use than a paper index. Cross references in the book could also benefit from active links. The table of contents is set up with links, so this somewhat makes up for the lack of an index. Also, all website URL's in the guide have active links to...

Missing content
The description implies that all of the articles are included in the Kindle edition. It says it omits, "some images and tables."The issues I've received appear to omit ALL images, ALL tables, and a portion of the articles, too. For example, I was annoyed to see that all of the movie reviews are omitted. Also, forget the cartoons, even the editorial cartoons.I was also a little annoyed that the columns in the Opinions section usually gave only the last names of the columnists (e.g., "Will" instead of "George F. Will, Washington Post"). Today, they just omitted the columnists names altogether. There are also frequently missing spaces between words, particularly following names that are in bold.Still, it's useful enough that I was willing to pay for at least one month.

It's not an electronic edition of the paper
UPDATE: There are fewer missing articles in the paper now but delivery continues to be a problem. More than a week was missed in December (Amazon credited me for the month) but for the last month (Feb 2010) the paper is not delivered to the Kindle until after 8:00 AM so I have to read this morning paper from the web site or the iPhone application with my breakfast. I'm giving up and canceling my subscription.ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is not an opinion of the quality of the Statesman but a comparison of the printed paper with the Kindle edition. The Kindle has no pictures, no ads, no weather, and no TV listings. Most articles from the paper are in the Kindle but not all - no pattern I can detect for the omissions. For example on Sun 3/29 only 2 of 4 articles on the front page were in the Kindle edition. The Life and Arts section only appears in the Sunday version of the Kindle - not in weekday versions. The sports section is pretty complete but of course no box scores or...

Austin

Gerdert tells KXAN-TV that the money saved by this initiative could someday result in cost savings to Austin residents: "When it comes time to look at possible increases for solid waste services we may not have to increase it for residents because... Yesterday, Austin Resource Recovery announced a partnership with Catalog Choice, a free service that puts your name on do-not-deliver lists for junk mail and phone books. In fact, most of us would rather do without it. That's why officials in Austin took time off from rehearsing with their ska/bluegrass fusion trios to become the latest city to give residents a way to opt out of receiving unwanted mail. "The first step to recycling is to reduce what we have," said Bob Gerdert, Austin Resource Recovery director.

Look at her, wearing huge baggy pants with fugly boots along with a hat hiding her face yet she looks effortlessly prettier than a damn lot of women out there. Just looking at the body.

The only good thing that I've seen come out of this is the rightful public outrage at police, particularly Austin's notoriously corrupt and murderous police. Thank you so much for posting the tragic story of Cisco, the dog murdered by one of Austin's "finest" thugs. In fact, one of my doctors even had one of his young Great Danes shot by APD after they invaded his property when responding to a false security alarm in his neighborhood—it wasn't even his house that had a false alarm.
